Sampson “Newfer” Beilschmidt

2006 - 2017

SAMPSON "NEWFER" BEILSCHMIDT: January 8, 2006 to April 29, 2017
If dictionaries had definitions for "Gentle Giant" you would find a picture of Sampson. He was a 152 pound Newfoundland/Golden Retriever whose heart was 1,000 times larger than his body size. He gave immense love and comfort to us throughout his 11 plus years, always eager to share his happiness with all of his canine and feline siblings.
When he was able to walk and run pain free, he spent an unknown quantity of hours in the backyard, eating grass and kicking his heels up in glee. Life was good and his health was trouble free.
As the years passed, Sampson got arthritis in his hips, and he remained on medication for the remainder of his days. This maintained the pain and kept him happy for many years, but one day in April, 2017, we realized how difficult it had become for him to get up. We tried to assist him with his sling, as we often did, but on this occasion he snapped at us, the first time ever in over 11 years.
Our sad realization was that all of his medications (and there were many) were no longer enough to maintain his quality of life and we needed to say goodbye. Sampson had many favourite spots in the house, his and his alone. These spots are now forever empty, and the memories of him being there tug at our heartstrings, and only sadness remains.
On April 29, 2017 we said farewell to our "Gentle Giant", and we know that he will once again be walking and running pain free, and kicking his heels up in glee until we meet again and cross the Bridge together.
Thank you Sampson for all of the love and joy you brought to us, and know that you will remain in our hearts forever. REST IN PEACE OUR 'NEWFER".
We love you and miss you,
Mama and Poppy
